What the Bible Actually Says?

Or doesn't say. It's Thinking Time!

We've seen, so far, that the Bible "version" of creation isn't much different, at least in the order of things, from modern scientific thought. Bearing in mind the fact that the writers of Genesis were sharing their wisdom at least 4,000 years ago, and basing it on much older word-of-mouth stories, this similarity is almost miraculous. They could never have invented it, not in a million years. but ...

Hey, that's too easy a get-out!

... we do need to think about things like "evolution".

But thinking is hard!

But still, surely evolution does prove the Bible was wrong?

Not so fast, clever and inquisitive young person! Things to think about!

Darwin's work was (and is) only a theory. It may be right but there are other theories which may also be right. Perhaps a whole mixture of "rules" are needed to explain things. Since Darwin, many scientists have suggested that creatures do not change so easily.

The Coelacanth, for example, remains unchanged after 410 million years.

Weird?

To try to make an animal change, a scientist (cruel and heartless beast!) cut off the tails of mice for 310 generations ...

That's totally gross.

... He hoped the mice would "get used" to having no tail and so not bother to grow one! But they kept on growing tails! And, if species change, why do men have nipples? Now there's a question!

The Bible does not say that God created things like a sort of mighty magician!

It says...

Then God commanded, “Let the water be filled with many kinds of living beings, and let the air be filled with birds.

Then God commanded, “Let the earth produce all kinds of animal life: domestic and wild, large and small”

Sounds quite like Charles Darwin's scheme of things, in many ways. God is in charge but stuff happens and keeps on happening.
